How to download all your Snapchat Memories (2026 guide)
The quickest way to save all your Memories is Snapchat’s own My Data export. It’s free. Here’s how to do it, step by step.
Step by step
- Open My Data. On a computer, log in at accounts.snapchat.com and click My Data. On your phone, open Snapchat, go to your Profile, tap the gear icon ⚙️ (Settings) and choose My Data.
- Turn on “Export your Memories”. It’s under Select data to include.
- Make sure you get the list of dates and places. Snapchat’s help page offers a Request Only Memories button. If you also see Export JSON Files, switch it on – the file
memories_history.jsonis where your real dates and locations are kept, and you need it to fix them later. TechCrunch’s guide suggests ticking Memories, HTML files and JSON files. - Choose the date range. Switch the date range off (or pick “All time”) to get everything. Bigger exports take longer.
- Confirm your email address – Snapchat emails you there when the export is ready.
- Click Submit at the bottom of the page.
- Wait for the email. Snapchat says it aims to deliver within 7 days, and large downloads can take longer. You can also check on the My Data page under See exports.
- Download every file. Click See exports, then Download. A big collection can come as several ZIP files – download all of them. Don’t leave it too long: the download links inside the export stop working after about a week.
Got your Snapchat ZIP file(s)? Put the real dates, locations and captions back – free, no sign-up, and your files never leave your device.
Tips that save hassle
- Use a computer if you can. Snapchat itself suggests downloading on a computer rather than a phone, and trying a different browser if it goes wrong.
- Typed the wrong email? No problem – log in at accounts.snapchat.com, open My Data and download it from there.
- My Eyes Only isn’t included. Move anything you want to keep out of My Eyes Only into your normal Memories before you ask for the export.
- Only want a few? In the app you can select up to 100 Memories at a time and tap Export → Download to save them to your camera roll. For thousands, the My Data export is much quicker.
- Got an email you didn’t expect? If someone else asked for your data, Snapchat advises changing your password and turning on Login Verification straight away.
What you get – and the catch
The ZIP has an index.html page you can open in your browser, with a Memories section, plus your actual photos and videos. The catch: the files often show the wrong date (usually the day you exported them) and no location, and captions or stickers can come as separate see-through images. The real dates and places are in memories_history.json, not in the photos themselves.
That’s what our free tool fixes. Read how to fix Snapchat Memories with wrong dates or missing locations, or just drop your ZIPs into the fixer.
